After the LGBTQ group known as out to YouTube for not contemplating homophobic remarks as a violation of its platform’s insurance policies, firm CEO Susan Wojcicki apologized to the group. “I do know that the selections we made had been very hurtful to the LGBTQ group and that wasn’t our intention in any respect. That was not our intention, and we’re actually sorry about that,” The Verge quoted Wojcicki as saying on the Code Convention in Scottsdale, Arizona on Monday.

Wojcicki’s apology comes within the wake of the corporate’s failure to take extra definitive motion in opposition to conservative pundit Steven Crowder who made homophobic and racist feedback about Vox publications author Carlos Maza, calling him “lispy queer” and “homosexual Mexican”.

In response to Maza’s complaints, the Google-owned video sharing platform admitted that regardless of the language utilized by Crowder was clearly hurtful, the movies didn’t violate their platform insurance policies. The choice led to mass outcry from YouTube creators, critics and even Google staff who signed a petition in opposition to YouTube’s determination.

Apologising and defending the choice, the YouTube CEO mentioned: “I’m actually, personally very sorry. As an organization we actually need to help this group. It’s simply from a coverage standpoint we have to be constant – if we took down that content material, there can be a lot different content material that we have to take down.”

Despite the fact that YouTube left Crowder’s channel up, it did take away commercials from his channel, the report added.
This isn’t the primary time that Google has been pulled up for its anti-LGBTQ group stand.

In March, US-based LGBTQ civil rights advocacy group — Human Rights Marketing campaign (HRC) Basis — suspended Google from its 2019 Company Equality Index (CEI) for failing to take away a “dialog remedy” app from its PlayStore. The platform is seeking to re-evaluate its harassment insurance policies within the wake of the continuing scenario.
