L’Artisan Parfumeur Bana Banana ~ perfume evaluation

L’Artisan Parfumeur is an outdated buddy. I’ve owned bottles of Ananas Fizz (discontinued), Mûre et Musc (unique model), L’Eau de L’Artisan, Passage d’Enfer, L’Eau d’Ambre, Dzongkha, Séville à l’Aube, Traversée du Bosphore, Dzing!, Timbuktu, Méchant Loup and Bois Farine, to not point out amber balls and candles. Once I noticed the advertisements for the brand new Bana Banana,* with their vintage botanical illustrations of banana crops, I used to be primed to BUY (I like the scent of banana).

Issues began off swimmingly. Bana Banana opens with spiced banana leaf, flower and fruit (plenty of pepper and nutmeg); the vibe is easy and liqueur-y. A beautiful violet leaf be aware shades the background (that is my favourite violet leaf be aware since Carven Pour Homme). Bana Banana’s fruit be aware appears “reconfigured”: some leaf and unripe peel, a touch of sweet, and the “salad” scent of the banana flower. Bana Banana has a tropical character, even when powdered iris arrives. The silky iris appears “apt” and blends superbly with the opposite notes, offering a “post-bath” refreshing/talc scent. Tonka bean, sharp and vibrant, arrives subsequent and is joined by a sheer (non-cloying) amber accord.

All this great things occurs in 7-10 minutes on my pores and skin. If you happen to’re a no-nonsense shopper, that is sufficient time to smell a tester, pull out your bank card and be in your means. Too dangerous that on the 10-minute mark of improvement, a suffocating white musk be aware/accord arrives and coats every little thing of curiosity. Ten minutes of originality and enjoyable, adopted by ten hours of cheap-smelling vapidness. Such is the advertising and marketing ploy for a lot of up to date perfumes. (This can be primarily based on elements’ pricing — add just a few drops of the good things and cargo up on dreck — and desirous to make as a lot revenue as attainable. Ramón Monegal is the emperor of this tactic.)

Once I consider the fascinating perfumes L’Artisan has dropped from its line-up…smelling Bana(l) Banana annoys me much more. And it will not wash out of cloth! I’ve washed the shirts I wore throughout testing TWICE with out dislodging the musks. If you would like a fantastic, longer-lasting banana scent, I like to recommend Blackbird Y06-S.

Want: L’Artisan would launch Bana Banana as a cologne, with solely the highest notes included. One can dream….

* Perfumer Céline Ellena; listed perfume notes of pepper, nutmeg, violet, jasmine, iris, banana, banana flower, tonka bean, musk, amber.
