PUBG, or PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, made the now omnipresent battle-royale style a factor. Now, as the sport enters its fourth season, its builders are giving it an official lore. Launching a cinematic trailer for the sport on Tuesday, PUBG Corp. revealed that the last-man-standing killing is the brainchild of an obscenely wealthy man, himself traumatized by battle.

The trailer depicts a younger baby being the final survivor of a 1965 bombing in Erangel, the primary map in PUBG, escaping a bomb raid and hiding from troopers. “I believed I misplaced every little thing in that fiery nightmare,” a narrator says, “however what I discovered within the rubble of my childhood woke up me. I used to be the primary lone survivor of Erengel. However I might not be the final.”

Quick ahead a few years to the current day, and we see the younger boy has grown up into a person — who’s now watching the chaos of PUBG as we all know it unfold by a set of screens. “Welcome to my battlegrounds,” he says because the trailer ends.

Season four is a serious replace for PUBG, drastically updating the sport’s visuals, including new parkour motion in addition to extra weapons, automobiles and, apparently, a narrative. It launches July 24.
