GOBLIN MOON
A Goblin Moon on Halloween evening
brings the goblins out to frolic.
Because the moon rises, a costumed household—turbaned
fortuneteller mother, cowboy dad, toddler bear, and pigtailed pirate (eye patch
askew)—units off trick-or-treating. The creepy shadows solid by the moon clearly
have the little buccaneer on alert (the accompanying image’s darkish, however
nothing’s too scary, and adults are shut). “Higher get residence now / and comfortable up
inside. / The goblins are coming— / we higher go disguise!” From beneath the
safety of covers, the younger pirate friends out to see the goblins frolicking.
However once they disappear from sight, the protagonist begins seeing and listening to
issues inside the home, and readers will spy the lovable little inexperienced
monsters as they disguise from the looking out flashlights of the adults. Emboldened,
the child tells the goblins to return to their moon, however maybe they want an
incentive? A path of Halloween sweet main away from the home simply may do
it. And maybe they’ll provide one thing in return? Rogers’ gouache and digital
illustrations are magical when depicting the evening outdoors, with sinuous timber
in deep blues and greens highlighted within the white gentle from a gently smiling
moon. And whereas the premise of monsters in the home which are invisible to
adults is a creepy notion, the goblins are delightfully enjoyable and by no means
scary.
A just-scary-enough romp for the
courageous. (Image ebook. Four-Eight)
