ON THE STROKE OF GOODNIGHT
A lyrical poem match for any bedtime ritual.
Rice captures the soothing rhythms of the evening in an ode
to bedtime that may please any toddler. Utilizing what look like cut-paper
silhouettes on stable and gradient-color backings, Rice fills every web page with photographs of night repose: geese napping, deer looking, a squirrel sleeping, and so forth. The
silhouettes are touched with buff highlights, giving them form and suggesting
feathers, fur, and a fawn’s spots. In most of the photos,
the picture of a clock will be seen with its palms pointing to
the late-night/early-morning hours to additional recommend the lateness of the day. Usually superimposed on
tree trunks, the clock takes on many types—a duck’s residence, a birdhouse, a shed,
