2020 Ladies’s Prize for Fiction Shortlist Introduced
Celebrating excellence, originality, and accessibility in writing by ladies in English from the world over and now in its 25th yr, the Ladies’s Prize for Fiction has introduced its 2020 shortlist. The six finalists embody Booker Prize co-winner Bernardine Evaristo’s Lady, Girl, Different and a variety of books from well-established authors like Hilary Mantel and Jenny Offill to the notable debut Dominicana by Angie Cruz. The winner will now be introduced on September 9, pushed again from its unique date of June three.
Chair of the judges Martha Lane Fox commented on the listing, “We’re all residing in difficult, unhappy, and complicated instances so unimaginable tales present hope, a second of escape and some extent of connection now greater than ever. Selecting the shortlist was robust—we went slowly and thoroughly and passions ran excessive—simply as you’d need in such a course of. However we’re all so pleased with these books—all readers will discover solace in the event that they choose one up.”
The 2020 judging panel consists of chair Martha Lane Fox; author and activist Scarlett Curtis; author and activist Melanie Eusebe; co-founder of the Black British Enterprise Awards, writer, and comic Viv Groskop; and Paula Hawkins, worldwide bestselling writer of The Lady on the Practice.
