Micro Crochet Jewelry and Tutorials by SteffiGlaves

Loading ....

I remember whining when I struggled with a 0.6 mm crochet hook learning the ISK wire crochet technique (by Yael of Yoola Design).  Well, meet UK designer, Steffi Glaves who makes incredible micro crochet jewelry and tutorials using a 0.5 mm crochet hook and quilting cotton sewing thread!

Steffi explained about her technique:  “The term is micro-crochet, but my work is very reminiscent of Irish lace. I initially made crochet accessories with standard-sized wool in 2013 when I graduated from university, and my work gradually became smaller and smaller as I explored different stitches, wools and threads, until I could make something small and elegant enough to wear on my ear.”

Her work is astoundingly tiny!  The crochet skull and poppy flower to be the smallest ones I have ever seen.  I also love how she introduces color into some of her designs such as the gorgeous peacock pattern shown above. This pair of tassel earrings has been dip dyed :

She recounts, in this press article about her work, how her mother taught her to crochet when she was 18.  Steffi clearly inherited her creative leanings from her artist mother. She also sells her jewelry in her mother’s store.

Although she is a multi-disciplinary artist, it’s clear micro-crochet is her passion!
