2020 Girls’s Prize for Fiction Longlist Introduced

Celebrating excellence, originality, and accessibility in writing by ladies in English from internationally and now in its 25th yr, the Girls’s Prize for Fiction has introduced its 2020 longlist. The sixteen finalists embrace Booker Prize co-winner Bernardine Evaristo’s Lady, Girl, Different and a spread of books from well-established authors like Jacqueline Woodson and Hilary Mantel to notable debuts like Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams. The shortlist shall be introduced on April 22nd and the winner shall be introduced on June third.
Chair of the judges, Martha Lane Fox commented on the checklist, “Forward of the longlist assembly I used to be anxious that the negotiations between judges is perhaps as arduous as Brexit, nevertheless it was an absolute delight to choose our remaining 16 books. Entries for the Prize’s 25th yr have been spectacular and we reveled within the selection, depth, humanity and pleasure of the writing–we hope everybody else will too.”
